Raven's Rock
Sun above the
Sun-warm cliffs, on which
My body sprawls, near the
Edge.
Soul stretches out its
Hand, through the
Sun-warm air,
Reaching toward the
Hazy horizon of
Rustling trees and
Sky.
But the horizon tricks my eyes by
Backing away into eternity,
Circling the sphere, until again it
Meets my
Sun-warm edge.
I try to touch
Infinity,
But find
Myself
In passing.

Thanks, people! I feel flattered. :) Jonathan, the effect may be overdone. I'm not sure. That's why I posted it to my blog instead of straight into my writing archives on my website. Chances are it will be edited again before it goes in there. It already began life in my hard-copy journal and changed form quite a bit on the way to my blog. :)
Basically, I am trying to keep the tension of being limited and longing for something infinite. Thus, I only loosen up the lines for the three when my soul's "hand" is circling the globe. Then I clamp down again immediately as soon as I come back to myself. The last section may be too much; I agonized over those lines, rewriting and splitting them differently. I wanted "Infinity" and "Myself" on lines alone, because I wanted to emphasize them the same as "Edge" and "Sky." The latter is also symbolic for "infinity," while the former points to "myself."
Jonathan, you need to write some poetry! Carolyn did on her blog just the other day, too. :) It seems to be the thing to do. :D
